Hot-Rolled Carbon Steel Coils

Carbon steel coil manufacturers primarily supply hot-rolled carbon steel coils conforming to Chinese national standards, while also producing those commonly used in export markets, such as Japanese, European, and American standards. These can be broadly categorized into several types.

Hot-Rolled Carbon Steel Coils are steel products manufactured by heating carbon steel slabs to high temperatures (typically above 1,000°C) and then rolling them into coils through a series of rolling mills. This process occurs above the steel’s recrystallization temperature, allowing the material to be easily shaped and formed.

These coils are characterized by good ductility, moderate strength, and cost-effectiveness. Due to the hot rolling process, the surface is relatively rough with a layer of oxide scale, and dimensional tolerances are less precise compared to cold-rolled steel. Hot-rolled carbon steel coils are widely used in construction, machinery manufacturing, automotive components, shipbuilding, and structural applications where high precision is not critical.

Types of Carbon Steel Coils

Ordinary carbon structural steel, with mainstream grades including Q195, Q215, and Q235B, and some manufacturers also producing grades like Q235C and Q235D which require high low-temperature toughness. This type of material is highly versatile and is the most common hot-rolled carbon steel coil on the market.

High-quality carbon structural steel includes low-carbon grades such as 08 steel, 10 steel, and 20 steel, mainly used for deep drawing, pipe making, and sheet metal processing. There are also medium-carbon grades such as 35 steel and 45 steel, suitable for subsequent processing of mechanical parts, shafts, and hardware accessories.

Low-alloy high-strength structural steel, with core materials including Q355B, Q355C, Q355D, and Q355E, boasts higher strength than ordinary carbon steel, making it suitable for load-bearing structures, engineering machinery, bridges, tower cranes, and other applications. Some major manufacturers also offer higher-strength hot-rolled coils such as Q420 and Q460.

Chinese suppliers can also produce internationally recognized grades, such as Japanese standard SS400 and SPHC hot-rolled pickled coils, European standard S235JR and S355JR, and American standard A36. In addition, they can supply specialized hot-rolled carbon steel coils, such as pipeline steel L245 and L290 for oil and gas transportation, and weathering structural steel Q355NH suitable for outdoor use, essentially covering the material needs of various scenarios including construction, pipe manufacturing, machinery, stamping, and steel structures.

Hot-Rolled Carbon Steel Coils

Advantages

1.Cost-Effective Production

Hot rolling involves fewer processing steps and no need for reheating after initial rolling, making it more economical than cold-rolled steel—ideal for bulk procurement.

2.Excellent Formability

Due to processing at high temperatures, the material has lower hardness and better ductility, making it easy to bend, cut, weld, and shape for various applications.

3.High Strength and Toughness

Hot-rolled carbon steel coils offer good mechanical strength and impact resistance, suitable for structural and load-bearing uses.

4.Wide Size Range

Available in a broad range of thicknesses and widths, with flexible customization options to meet different industrial requirements.

5.Good Weldability

The low carbon content ensures reliable welding performance without cracking, making it suitable for fabrication and construction.

6.Versatile Applications

Commonly used in construction, automotive, shipbuilding, machinery manufacturing, and pipeline production due to its balanced performance and cost.

7.Reliable Supply from China Manufacturers

Leading China suppliers and factories can provide stable quality, large-scale production capacity, and customized processing services (cutting, slitting, surface treatment), making sourcing efficient and cost-competitive.
