430 Stainless Steel Sheet is a common ferritic stainless steel, with the national standard designation 06Cr17. It is nickel-free and contains approximately 17% chromium.
It has better rust resistance than 439, is more economical, and has good cold stamping and bending forming properties; however, its resistance to intergranular corrosion is average, and it is prone to corrosion problems after welding. Its resistance to high temperatures, acids, alkalis, and chloride ion corrosion is relatively weak.
439 is a titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel, with the national standard designation 06Cr18Ti. It has a slightly higher chromium content than 430 and adds titanium to refine its microstructure.
Compared to 430, it offers significantly improved resistance to intergranular corrosion, high-temperature oxidation, and thermal fatigue. It also has better weldability, is less prone to cracking and failure under hot conditions, and has stronger resistance to water vapor corrosion. It is mainly used in medium-temperature applications such as automotive exhaust components, water heaters, boiler components, high-temperature flues, and outdoor heat-resistant pipe fittings.

Intergranular Corrosion Resistance
Generally, prone to intergranular corrosion failure after welding
Excellent, titanium stabilizes the metallographic structure, effectively preventing intergranular corrosion
Economical, lower price, high cost-performance ratio for basic applications
Mid-to-high-end heat-resistant type, priced slightly higher than 430, suitable for more demanding heat-resistant conditions
Stainless steel plate manufacturers remind you: 430 is a basic, economical ferritic stainless steel, primarily designed for low-cost applications in room-temperature, dry environments; 439 is a titanium-stabilized upgraded version, significantly improving resistance to intergranular corrosion, high-temperature resistance, and weldability compared to 430, making it the preferred material for medium-temperature thermal applications and outdoor heat-resistant applications.
