Suppliers of 6082 aluminum tubes primarily offer round tubes with outer diameters ranging from φ10–φ250mm and wall thicknesses from 2–25mm. The mainstream supply formats are T6 and T651, with a standard length of 6 meters. Custom cutting to length and non-standard specifications are also supported.
6082 belongs to the 6-series high-strength aluminum-magnesium-silicon structural aluminum tubes, often used as an upgrade to 6061. Selection is primarily based on load-bearing requirements, processing precision, and cost budget. T6 and T651 are the two most common supply formats, with prices showing a clear gradient depending on the process and specifications.
In terms of selection logic, leading Chinese aluminum tube manufacturers prioritize matching application scenario requirements. For conventional heavy-duty applications such as engineering machinery frames, lifting structures, ship auxiliary components, and building load-bearing beams, where dimensional accuracy requirements are not high and load-bearing capacity and cost-effectiveness are prioritized, the T6 state is the preferred choice. For automated equipment frames, precision tooling, CNC machined parts, and structural components with stringent tolerance requirements, where strict control of machining deformation is necessary, the T651 stress-relief state is the preferred choice. If aesthetic appeal and complex extruded cross-sections are prioritized, 6082 anodizing performance is weaker than 6063, making 6063 a more recommended option. 6082 is positioned for functional structural applications, offering slightly better corrosion resistance than 6061, and is also suitable for coastal outdoor structures.
The core difference between T6 and T651 lies in residual stress and dimensional stability. Both are solution-treated and artificially aged, resulting in similar basic strengths. In the T6 state, the tensile strength is ≥310MPa and the yield strength is ≥260MPa, reaching peak mechanical properties. However, quenching and cooling produce significant residual stress, making them prone to warping after complex machining. They are suitable for simple structural parts requiring cutting and simple processing, and have lower production costs. T651 adds a 1%~3% directional cold stretching process to the T6 process, eliminating most of the residual stress. It has better dimensional stability after machining, and straightness and geometric tolerances are easier to guarantee. Strength only decreases slightly, making it suitable for high-precision parts. However, the increased process leads to a higher unit price.
In terms of price, 6082 aluminum tubes are generally more expensive than 6063 and 10%~20% more expensive than 6061. This is mainly due to higher silicon and manganese content, greater resistance to extrusion deformation, and higher mold wear and production energy consumption. For the same specifications, T651 aluminum is 8% to 15% more expensive than T6, with prices for large-diameter thick-walled tubes and small-batch non-standard customized products rising further. Finished product prices are highly tied to the Yangtze River spot aluminum ingot benchmark price; fluctuations in aluminum ingot prices directly impact end-user pricing. Bulk purchasing can significantly reduce unit costs.
