7075 Aluminum Tube

7075 aluminum tube manufacturers primarily employ seamless extrusion and precision drawing processes, with diameters ranging from φ6 to φ200mm and wall thicknesses from 1 to 30mm. Leading Chinese factories mainly supply T6 and T651 tubes, primarily in round tube form, supporting both standard cuts and custom manufacturing to suit heavy-duty structural applications.

As an ultra-high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum alloy tube, the selection of the thermal state, corrosion resistance, and pricing logic are core considerations in procurement decisions for 7075. These are detailed below.

Regarding the selection between T6 and T651, the core difference lies in residual stress and dimensional stability. T6 utilizes a standard solution treatment + artificial aging process. High-temperature solution treatment fully dissolves the zinc and magnesium strengthening phases, followed by uniform precipitation during low-temperature aging, resulting in peak material strength. The tensile strength of T6 can reach over 540MPa, exhibiting excellent load-bearing capacity. However, quenching and cooling can generate internal residual stress, making it prone to deformation and warping after machining, and difficult to maintain dimensional accuracy. It is suitable for ordinary heavy-duty structural parts and load-bearing supports where high precision is not required, and its cost is relatively lower. T651, based on the T6 process, adds 1%~3% of a directional permanent tensile process, completely eliminating internal residual stress. Its strength is basically the same as T6, but it hardly deforms after machining, exhibiting outstanding dimensional stability. For applications with stringent tolerance requirements, such as precision machined parts, high-precision tooling, and aerospace precision structural parts, 7075 aluminum tube manufacturers recommend prioritizing the T651 condition, although its unit price is slightly higher than T6.

Corrosion resistance is a significant weakness of 7075. It belongs to the aluminum-zinc-magnesium-copper alloy family, with a high proportion of zinc and copper. In corrosive environments, intermetallic compounds easily precipitate at grain boundaries, forming a potential difference with the matrix, initiating intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. The corrosion rate of bare material in humid, salt spray, and industrial acid/alkali environments is much faster than that of pure aluminum and 5-series rust-resistant aluminum. While suitable for short-term use in dry indoor environments, long-term outdoor, coastal, and chemical applications require protective measures. Mainstream solutions include hard anodizing, electrostatic spraying, and aluminum cladding to isolate corrosive media and extend service life.

The price of 7075 aluminum tubing is significantly higher than that of ordinary aluminum tubing for three main reasons. First, the raw material cost is high. 7075 alloy elements account for over 10% of its composition, with zinc, magnesium, and copper alloys having even higher unit prices. Stricter composition control results in raw material costs exceeding 30% compared to 6061. Second, the production threshold is high. 7075 has high deformation resistance, leading to rapid mold wear and requiring heat treatment precision of ±1℃. T651 also requires specialized stretching equipment, resulting in more processes, longer cycles, and lower yields, significantly increasing processing costs. Third, there is a difference in production capacity positioning. 7075 targets the high-end market, with high production qualification requirements. Its effective production capacity is far lower than that of 6-series general-purpose aluminum materials. Combined with high-standard testing costs, the final unit price is typically 2-3 times that of 6061 aluminum tubing.
