A Galvanized Square Pipe refers to a steel product manufactured using carbon steel or low-alloy steel as a base material; it is formed into a square cross-section through cold bending or welding processes, and subsequently undergoes either hot-dip galvanizing or electro-galvanizing surface treatment.

The primary function of the galvanized coating is to form a dense, protective zinc film, thereby effectively preventing the steel from oxidizing and rusting when exposed to humid, rainy, or corrosive environments, and significantly enhancing both its corrosion resistance and service life.

1. Difference in Zinc Layer Thickness:

Hot-dip galvanizing: 55–120 μm (National standard ≥55μm, commonly used in engineering ≥70μm)

Cold galvanizing: 5–20 μm (Conventionally only 8–12μm)

→ Hot-dip galvanized zinc layer = 5–10 times that of cold-dip galvanizing


2. Difference in Bonding Method:

Hot-dip galvanizing: Metallurgical bonding, zinc-iron alloy layer, corrosion protection is achieved through the substrate itself.

Cold galvanizing: Physical adsorption, just a thin electroplated film, easily peeled off upon impact, and a starting point for rust.


3. Difference in Rust Prevention Principle:

Hot-dip galvanizing: Shielding protection + sacrificial anode protection, even at cracks, rust will not occur.

Cold galvanizing: Only shielding protection, rust will spread from the inside once a crack occurs.

In short, cold-dip galvanized square Pipes are only suitable for temporary indoor/decorative use; hot-dip galvanized square tubes are only suitable for outdoor use, engineering projects, and important structures.
