What are the differences between 45# seamless steel pipes and 20# and 40Cr seamless steel pipes, and how should you choose?

The core differences lie in strength and positioning. 20# is low-carbon steel with good plasticity and weldability, suitable for fluid transportation and cold bending welding applications; 45# is medium-carbon steel, which can be tempered and strengthened, resulting in higher strength, primarily used for machining heavy-duty and wear-resistant parts; 40Cr is alloy structural steel with better hardenability and fatigue resistance than 45#, suitable for heavy-duty high-end transmission components. For ordinary medium-to-high strength machining, 45# offers the best cost-performance ratio, while 40Cr is chosen for heavy-duty, high-requirement applications.


Can 45# seamless steel pipe be tempered? What hardness can be achieved after tempering?

45# is the most commonly used tempering base material and fully supports tempering. After conventional tempering, the hardness is stable at HB220~280, and the tensile strength can reach over 600MPa, with a balanced match of strength, toughness, and plasticity; the process can also be adjusted according to requirements to control within the target hardness range.
