254 Stainless Steel Sheet (254SMO) is a high-alloy super-austenitic stainless steel plate characterized primarily by its high nickel (Ni), high molybdenum (Mo), and nitrogen (N) content, endowing it with exceptional corrosion resistance.

Its specific compositional design enables it to demonstrate superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments—such as seawater and highly saline conditions—with a level of corrosion resistance that approaches, and in some cases rivals, that of certain nickel-based alloys.

Core Components:

19.5-20.5% chromium

17.5-18.5% nickel

6.0-6.5% molybdenum

0.18-0.22% nitrogen

≤0.02% carbon.

It is widely used in seawater desalination, marine engineering, chemical industry, papermaking, and other extreme corrosive environments.

2. Excellent Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC):

In high-temperature, high-chloride environments, ordinary stainless steel is highly susceptible to stress corrosion cracking, while 254SMO demonstrates stability, making it suitable for coastal and chemical heat exchange equipment.


3. Resistance to Oxidizing and Some Reducing Acids:

It exhibits good corrosion resistance to nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and organic acids, and remains stable even in moderate concentrations of sulfuric acid and acetic acid, making it suitable for various chemical operating conditions.


4. Resistance to Uniform and Erosion Corrosion:

Under conditions of seawater flow and particulate-containing media erosion, the surface is not easily corroded and thinned, making it suitable for seawater pumps, valves, pipelines, and desalination equipment.


5. Resistance to Intergranular Corrosion:

The low-carbon + high-nitrogen design minimizes intergranular corrosion after welding, allowing direct use in welded structural components without solution treatment.
